52 Letters of Intent (LOIs) were received for the November 1, 2007 deadline for the Regenerative Medicine and Nanomedicine Emerging Team Grant Competition. 30 applicants were invited to submit a full application for the June 2, 2008 deadline.

Upcoming Workshops

Nanoparticles and Nanomaterials: Health, Safety and Standardization (inno.08)
April 22, 2008, Palais des congrès de Montréal, Montréal, Québec

The most recent developments in nanotechnology will be presented, while addressing health, safety, prevention and standardization issues. As well, the first Quebec Guide of Good Practices for the Safe Handling of Nanoparticles will be presented during the symposium.

This is a 1-day event being held as part of the larger 3-day inno.08 conference. There is the option of registering for this day only.

Nanomedicine/NanoForum 2008
May 28-30, 2008, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta

This year, Nanoforum and the Nanomedicine workshop will be combined into one schedule. The workshop will include four themed presentation sessions on material science, nano-scale applications of the Canadian Light Source (including biomedical), nano implications for drug delivery, and energy applications of nanotechnology. Presentations will be selected from submitted abstracts, and there will be extensive poster sessions.

Spinal Cord: Function, Repair and Rehabilitation after Injury
June 25-26, 2008, Omni Mont-Royal Hotel, Montréal, Québec

The Multidisciplinary Team in Locomotor Rehabiliation, an RMNI team grant holder, will host this meeting. The objective of the scientific program is to discuss recent advances in spinal cord research in Canadian laboratories from basic sciences to clinical applications.

Recent Workshops

Canadian Workshop on Multidisciplinary Research on Nanotechnology: Gaps, Opportunities and Priorities, January 22-24, 2008, Edmonton, Alberta

A number of funding agencies and departments of the Canadian Government brought together experts and interested stakeholders to discuss and identify priorities for research on nanotechnology in Canada, particularly as they relate to NE3LS issues (i.e. nanotechnology ethical, environmental, economic, legal and social issues), health impacts and risks, and the regulatory mechanisms needed to address them.  There was a particular focus on the need for interdisciplinary approaches, particularly as it relates to bridging disciplines and perspectives.

The final meeting report will be posted on our website within the next few months.
